What to do if you are victim to a scam

Never feel too embarrassed to report a scam – it could happen to anyone, especially at Ramadan. By reporting it, you’ll be making it more difficult for the scammers to deceive someone else.

How to report scams

  • Stop sending money straight away. If the payment has been set up as a Direct Debit, get in touch with your bank to stop this immediately.
  • Contact your bank immediately if you have if you have given personal information or bank details to a fraudster.
  • Beware of follow-up scams. Watch out if you have reported a scam and are then approached by someone claiming to help scam victims recover their money. This is also a type of scam, another way for fraudsters to get more from those who have already been scammed.
  • Contact Action Fraud www.actionfraud.police.uk. Information you give to Action Fraud could help track down the fraudster.
  • If you think you’ve been targeted by a scam, you should also report it so it can be investigated. You can do this through the Financial Conduct Authority website using their reporting form. https://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/report-scam-us
