How to close your account

If you would like to close your current or savings account, you can do this quickly and easily through Digital Banking.

  • Log in to Digital Banking (app or desktop)
  • Select the account you want to close
  • Go to Account Overview
  • Choose Account Closure
  • Select where any remaining funds should be sent (required, even if your balance is £0)
  • Confirm your identity (passcode, biometrics, or one-time passcode)
  • Review and confirm your request

Once confirmed, we'll process your closure request.

Closing a Notice Account

Notice Accounts can't be closed immediately — you'll need to give notice first.

  • Log in to Digital Banking
  • Select your Notice Account
  • Choose Notice of Withdrawal
  • Select New Notice of Withdrawal
  • Enter the full balance amount
  • Tick the closure option
  • Confirm your request
  • Your account will close once the notice period has ended.

Before you close your account

Transferring your balance

  • Current accounts: you can choose any account to receive your remaining funds.
  • Savings accounts: funds are sent to your nominated account — an external UK bank account in your name. If you haven't set one up yet, you can do this at [Insert link: nominated account details page].

Joint accounts

  • Either account holder can request closure.
  • All account holders will be notified by email.

Profit

Any outstanding profit will be paid to you when the account is closed.

What happens next?

Once your request is processed:

  • Your account will be closed
  • Any remaining funds will be transferred to your selected account
  • Any outstanding profit will be paid
  • We'll send you a confirmation email
  • Joint account holders may also receive a notification

How long will it take?

Most accounts are closed within 5 working days

During busy periods, it may take up to 10 working days
