Al Rayan Bank flies flag for British Sri Lankan Association at Westminster

Al Rayan Bank, the UK’s oldest and largest Islamic Bank*, recently backed The British Sri Lankan Assocation (BRISLA) Awards held at Conrad St.James, Westminster on 19th October.

Founded in 2015, the BRISLA Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals who have worked to improve the lives of British Sri Lankan citizens, in the education, business and healthcare sectors.

Since last year’s award ceremony, BRISLA has engaged in a wide range of activities including hosting the ‘Performance for Peace’ in London following the tragic events in Sri Lanka earlier this year, and attending the Inter Faith call for World Peace and Remembrance of the Tsunami held at the Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre at Kingsbury in December 2018.

Al Rayan Bank has supported this year’s event as part of the Bank’s ongoing commitment to engage with the communities it serves.

Commenting on the event, Sagheer Malik, Head of Premier & Retail Assets at Al Rayan Bank said: "Our continued engagement with the BRISLA Awards is part of our ongoing endeavour to strenghten ties with the communities we work in – a key focus for the Bank which lies at the heart of everything we do. Organisations such as BRISLA are important as they support local people and help foster cohesive, resilient communities."

Dr Zimar Sivardeen, President and Chairman of BRISLA said: "There are many selfless acts from businesses and individuals that make a real impact in UK communities and overseas, encouraging a more prosperous society for our fellow British Sri Lankans. The BRISLA Awards are one small step towards recognising and praising these achievements, and I thank Al Rayan Bank for its continuous support."

Al Rayan Bank, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is the UK's oldest and largest Sharia compliant bank. A recent independent study into the economic impact of Al Rayan Bank found that it delivered £389million to the UK economy last year. The bank is the largest provider of Islamic home finance in the country and was the first to introduce Islamic business banking to Britain.

As an independent UK bank, Al Rayan Bank is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the PRA.
