Al Rayan Bank appoints new Head of HR
Al Rayan Bank has announced that it has recruited a new Head of HR to help lead the company through its next phase of development. Ros King brings over a decade of experience in HR leadership to Al Rayan Bank, during which time she has specialised in developing HR functions in financial services companies, and businesses experiencing rapid growth.
Ms King’s previous experience includes HR business partnering roles at Santander and Arval, a BNP Paribas’ company. She also has significant experience working with rapidly growing management consultancies, Newton Europe and CIL Management Consultants. In her last role as a HR consultant for The People Link, Ms King advised small to medium enterprises on achieving sustainable organisational growth through people management and efficient use of people and resources.
Sultan Choudhury, CEO Al Rayan Bank, welcomed the appointment and said, "As a rapidly growing organisation, Al Rayan Bank requires experienced and dynamic talent on its senior management team. Ros has a proven track record in leading the human resource development of financial services companies, this together with her expertise in supporting businesses through periods of growth make her an excellent addition to the Bank. I welcome Ros to the team and look forward to working with her as we continue to develop Al Rayan Bank.”
Al Rayan Bank has had a remarkable two years. Following its acquisition by Masraf Al Rayan* in 2014, the second largest Islamic bank in Qatar by market value, the Bank posted its most impressive financial performance to date, with operating income increasing by 168%, customer financing increasing by 86% and retail deposits increasing by 59%. 2015’s results are expected to be equally impressive.
In May 2015 Al Rayan Bank opened a Private Banking branch in Knightsbridge, London, and in September, the Bank relocated to much larger operational headquarters in Birmingham to support its burgeoning workforce, the recruitment of which will be overseen by Ms King.
Commenting on her appointment, Ros King, Head of HR Al Rayan Bank, said, “I’m delighted to be joining Al Rayan Bank at such an exciting stage in its development. This is an ethical bank which genuinely offers something different, not only to its customers, but also to its employees, and you can feel that through every layer of the organisation.
The Bank truly values its employees, a fact illustrated by its recent accreditation by ‘Investors in People’ and status as a ‘Living Wage’ employer. In an organisation that is developing so rapidly there is always lots to do. My immediate priorities are to grow and develop the already talented, innovative and diverse workforce and ensure we have right structures in place to allow the Bank to maintain its strong growth and expansion moving forward.”
Al Rayan Bank is the UK’s only wholly Sharia compliant retail bank. With a national retail branch and agency network, as well as internet, mobile and telephone banking services, the Bank serves more than 60,000 Muslim and non-Muslim customers. Al Rayan Bank is dedicated to strong, faith-based ethics and great customer service, and in May 2015, it was named by Global Finance magazine as one of the best Islamic banks in the world, in its annual list of the World’s Best Islamic Financial Institutions
As an independent UK bank, Al Rayan Bank is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority and is a member of Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
*Al Rayan Bank was previously known as The Islamic Bank of Britain. In February 2014 it was acquired by Masraf Al Rayan, the second largest Islamic bank in Qatar by market value, and was rebranded in December 2014.
