CEO's Ramadan message
Dear brothers and sisters
Assalamu Alaikum and Ramadan Kareem
I pray that this message finds you well.
Ramadan is once more upon us. On behalf of the whole Al Rayan Bank family, I warmly wish you a blessed and peaceful month.
Ramadan is a time for reflection, spiritual devotion and renewal. We join Muslims around the world as we come together to celebrate our faith and our community. By fasting, acts of Sadaqah (charity) and the payment of Zakah (alms), we remember those less fortunate than ourselves. These good acts in Ramadan are more than just a tradition; they are acts of worship towards Allah. The blessed month is an important time to recite Qur’an and reflect on its teachings during the month of revelation. Allah gave us the month of Ramadan to help strengthen our faith and demonstrate our submission to Him with patience, endurance, gratitude and will power.
For me, the challenge is not only to make improvements to my daily life during the month of Ramadan, but to keep those habits alive once the blessed month has passed. I believe a key element of this is to strive always to think beyond only myself, to ways in which I can serve the wider community as a whole. One of the ways I achieve this is through my work at Al Rayan Bank, which enables Muslims to conduct their everyday finances throughout their lives – to save, to study, to buy their homes, to save for a pension – without ever compromising their faith. In this way their spiritual efforts can be extended beyond Ramadan to encompass the financial aspects of their life.
Both charity and education play an active part in the Bank’s activities. We partner with leading charities to help us to support those less fortunate than ourselves, both at home and abroad. This year, Human Appeal is our Overseas Charity Partner and the National Zakat Foundation (NZF) is our Zakat Education Partner. We also support local fundraising efforts in the communities we serve throughout the UK. Over the year we have arranged educational seminars to help improve the community’s understanding of Zakah, been involved in charity fundraising activities, provided mentoring to school children through the Mosaic Network and Schools Enterprise Challenge, and supported events aimed at improving British Muslims’ understanding and practice of Islam.
On behalf of everybody at Al Rayan Bank, we pray that you and your families receive the great rewards and blessings of Ramadan. Ameen
