A Ramadan message from Sultan Choudhury, Managing Director, IBB
Dear brothers and sisters
Assalamu Alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak
The blessed month of Ramadan is upon us again. Each year Allah gives Muslims this blessed month to help strengthen our faith and demonstrate our submission to Him with patience, endurance, gratitude and will power. The entire month can be spent as a continuous act of worship by fasting, praying and carrying out deeds that please Him. In return, Allah promises us that we can gain the highest rewards and that His forgiveness and mercy is most abundant.
For me, the precious days of Ramadan pass by all too quickly and the challenge, spiritually and physically, is how to make the best use of the month that Allah has blessed us with. Fasting and increased prayer are its treasures and therefore a priority. The payment of Zakah (Alms) and Sadaqah (Charity) also play an important role as they prompt us to think beyond ourselves. I strongly believe that thinking of those in need and how we can help the wider community is as much a priority in Ramadan as the focus on our own spiritual self.
This is why, at IBB, serving the local community and contributing to its well-being is a fundamental aspect of our work. For example, over the year we have arranged educational seminars to help improve the community’s understanding of Zakah, been involved in charity fundraising activities, provided mentoring to school children through the Mosaic Network and Schools Enterprise Challenge and supported events aimed at improving British Muslims’ understanding and practice of Islam.
Particularly during Ramadan, when the sense of community is at its strongest, the involvement of IBB staff in the collective effort is greatly appreciated by local community members. They also recognise the value of IBB’s work which has culminated into the development of the largest range of Sharia compliant retail financial products in the UK. As a result, individuals and organisations can extend the spiritual efforts they undertake during Ramadan, and throughout the year, to encompass the financial aspects of their life. At IBB we call it ‘Banking you can believe in’.
Insha’Allah this Ramadan is a success for us all. May Allah accept our efforts, keep us in the best of health and Imaan and let us grow closer to Him as we seek His forgiveness, mercy and blessings. Ameen.
