A message from our CEO
Assalam-u-Alaikum and Ramadan Mubarak
Now the most holy month of blessings is upon us and on behalf of the Al Rayan Bank family, I would like to wish you all a joyous, blessed and peaceful Ramadan.
Ramadan is a gift from Allah, a sacred time where we can truly reflect upon what we can do to improve our lives and grow spiritually. In many ways, this is what Al Rayan Bank is doing too.
The Bank has grown so much and impacted so many people’s lives since it was founded back in 2004. Back then we had faith that, if we built a Sharia compliant bank at the heart of the community, British Muslims would choose to bank with us. So we opened our first branch in London, with a handful of customers and just nine employees. Today, we have more than 80,000 customers, our workforce exceeds 250 and we have 15 branches and offices throughout the UK.
During these years we have worked tirelessly to promote financial inclusion throughout the UK; launching products which enable Muslims to carry out their day to day banking needs without compromising their faith, as well bringing a new ethical form of banking to people of all faiths and none. We’ve also played a significant role in the growing importance of Islamic banking in the UK. Earlier this year we issued a public Sukuk (Islamic bond) for £250m. In doing so Al Rayan Bank achieved two firsts: the first bank ever to issue a Sukuk in a non-Muslim country, and the largest ever Sukuk in British currency – cementing the UK’s position as a global hub for Islamic banking.
Ramadan provides a blessed opportunity for everyone connected with the Bank to reflect on this success and plan for the future.
We intend to use the year ahead to invest. We will invest further in our people, our systems and our products - to ensure that we are ready for the next phase of the Bank’s growth; we will invest time to ensure that we continue to innovate our services and our products; but most importantly, we will invest our relentless energy to continue to serve you, our customers, and remain at your side as long as you need us.
It is said that Ramadan is the month in which prayers are accepted, so may Allah guide all of our efforts. May He accept all of our worship; our prayers, fasts and good intentions to please Him, and bless and protect us all in the year ahead.
