Keeping you safe online
One in every five pounds we spend, we spend online – most often using our cards. Hardly surprising then that we are such a target for online fraudsters: the country accounts for 2% of the 978 million global victims of cybercrime and almost 4% of the global losses.
To help tackle cybercrime here and abroad, Strong Customer Authentication is being introduced, which is a new set of regulatory rules designed to make online payments more secure. We featured an article about this subject last year and you can read it here.
Strong Customer Authentication is now being rolled out, and you will notice changes to shopping online when using an Al Rayan Bank debit card from March 2021. Payments may require customer authentication, in other words, a way to show that you are who you say you are. It will be a very straightforward process and you will be prompted to verify your identity in one of two ways:
- A One Time Passcode sent directly to your mobile phone, via a text message, for you to enter into the purchase verification screen.
- Authorising the purchase by logging into your Al Rayan Bank Mobile Banking app. If you don’t currently have the Mobile Banking app you can download it here.
If it’s not possible to verify that it is you when you are making your online purchases, your transaction will not go through. So, it’s very important that we have your correct mobile phone number and email address registered with us.
Recently we have attempted to contact all of our customers who could be affected by this change by phone or email to check we have the correct contact details. If you think you could be affected by this change and haven’t heard from us, you can update your email address or mobile phone number by calling us on 0800 408 6407^.
It always important for us to have your latest contact details, so please also remember to contact us if you change your mobile phone number or email address in the future.
