Saving lives in East Africa
Conflict and drought in South Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia has resulted in unprecedented suffering across the Horn of Africa.
Al Rayan Bank is supporting an emergency appeal launched by our exclusive charity partner Islamic Relief, to raise vital funds for 16 million people who are on the brink of famine in East Africa.
Islamic Relief – one of the world’s largest Islamic faith-based Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) – is on the ground right now, providing urgent food, water and medical aid to those affected.
We are providing unrivalled support to Islamic Relief’s aid efforts, by promoting the East Africa appeal within our branches and online channels to raise its profile amongst our customers, who have been keen to support such a worthy cause.
Islamic Relief raised over £115,000 in just the first two weeks of the appeal and we expect donations to continue as our charity partners asks for the support of our customers.
Islamic Relief is part of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which brings 13 leading aid charities together in times of crisis so that major disasters can be responded to quickly and collaboratively – the DEC has already raised more than £44 million in total for this appeal.
Al Rayan Bank is a proud supporter of Islamic Relief and the DEC; without these organisations this kind of major disaster relief work would not be possible.
There is however still more that we can do for the millions of people suffering in East Africa – every donation can make a significant difference to a person’s life.
